How can I make my own organic detergent?

To make such an organic detergent from borax and baking soda, you need a few other ingredients: simple soap and essential oils. Two great essential oils are lemon and lavender, which will make your detergent smell better.

Ingredients

  • 2 blocks of neutral soap (500 g)
  • 1 cup borax (200 g)
  • 2 cups baking soda (400 g)
  • 20 drops of your favorite essential oils
  • Water (as needed)

Tool

  • Grater
  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Protective gloves
  • Bucket
  • Wooden spoon
  • Empty bottles of liquid soap

Instructions:

  • Tear off the soap blocks.
  • Put the soap in a saucepan, add water and  cook on low heat.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon so that it does not get stuck in the bottom.
  • Put on  protective gloves, find another saucepan, and have borax and baking soda in it.
  • Pour the melted soap over the borax and baking soda, and  stir well.
  • When everything has dissolved, pour it into a bucket and mix with approx. 7 liters of water.
  • Keep stirring and add the essential oils.
  • When the batter is smooth, keep it in empty bottles for storage.
  • If you want, you can  make labels to remind yourself of what is in them.

Use

  • Shake well before use.
  • Pour it into the washing machine’s detergent compartment, as you would with regular detergent.
  • You can also  use it to wash the rest of the house : you can use it on the floors, in the kitchen, the bathroom and the like.

All in all,  it’s easy to make your own organic detergent, and there are many reasons to do so. Although it seems easier to just buy something in the store, this option is much better for the environment and will not harm your health.
